I would always love to go back to this place. Believe me!
I should've been here thrice had it not been with the storm which affected the province of Zambales back in November 2015 when I first went to Candelaria, Zambales together with my colleagues. Our planned to visit Potipot failed.
I wouldn't want let the failure in the past ruin another plan. So, in February 2016 we decided to go back to Candelaria and this time it was a sure success. My first success visit didn't satisfy me so, in February 2017 I returned together with someone special. Potipot holds a special place in my heart as this is the place where I found a new love. Cheesy!
Potipot can be found in Candelaria, a third-class municipality in Zambales. It's a small island which measures more than 7 hectares thus, can be explored in less than an hour. I did it for at least 30 minutes. There are private beaches and resorts in Candelaria, but my entire visit was spent at the bonggacious house of my friend whose brother is a Barangay Captain in Barangay Libertador. Thank you, Brgy. Captain Dela Llana & my friend James Dela Llana for the warm accommodation.
Potipot is a gift of nature that should be maintained and taken care of. It hasn't been developed nor touched. Of course there are basic facilities built in the island, however, it doesn't have electricity yet. If you plan to spend a night make sure to bring mosquito net, water, flashlights, and other necessities that you can use.
Travelling to Potipot is a bit challenging, but once you arrived you'll definitely enjoy the place and would say it's really worth it. The crystal water that surrounded the island is enticing as the melodious waves billowing the seashore are fun to watch with. The scenic beauty surrounding the island is a manifestation of God's gift to mankind.
How to get there?
You can commute from Caloocan bus station of Victory Liner going to Sta. Cruz, Zambales. Travel time is at least 8 hours and it would cost 450 pesos per person. Advise the driver/conductor to drop you off in Uacon, Candelaria at Petron gasoline station, then ride a tricycle to the port, fare is 15 pesos. From the Candelaria port you can hire a boat to take you to Potipot island which will cost 400-500 pesos. Travelling to the island will take at least 15 minutes or less. There you go! Enjoy and have fun, but remember to be a responsible traveller.
